As an entrepreneur, you may be considering starting a small catering business in order to get your feet wet in the hospitality industry. Before you launch your catering business in NJ, here are a few things to consider.

If you enjoy entertaining and cooking but do not have much experience in the restaurant industry, a great way to get started is to cater a few small parties, perhaps for friends or family. This allows you to test your organizational skills, try out some of your favorite recipes, and get creative in the kitchen. You will need some basic kitchen equipment if the party will only have 20 or 30 guests. Eventually, you will be able to invest in restaurant equipment in NJ if you feel that catering is right for you. Starting off small is a great way to see if you like the business without putting a lot of money into it.

You will need to be realistic when it comes to how many people you can cater for. You may find that catering out of your home is possible for events that have anywhere from 10 to 50 guests. Since you do not have the space, storage, staff, or restaurant equipment in NJ to help you, though, it may not be realistic to accept jobs with 75 guests or more when cooking out of your own kitchen. However, a venue with an on-site kitchen may be an option until you find a bigger cooking space and have more options for the equipment you use to cook with.
